The Silence

Raise your hand if you suck *raises hand* I cannot believe it has been since August 15 that I've blogged save for my little guest stint on Mr. O's blog. Seriously, I don't know what happened! Well I actually do, I started moving my stuff back to East Lansing, then I went to Florida, then I had to finish moving to East Lansing and have since been participating in Welcome Week festivities.

First things first work was great, I learned a ton (much to Kat's dismay when we were driving and I was spewing out facts about highways like someone who had their beer before liquor) and I can definitely see myself going back next summer. Florida was great, I always forget how annoying being in a car for 18 hours is. But we saved a ton so it was worth it. Had a great time in Florida, hanging out with my family is always great. Short list of activities that took place either in the car on the way there or while in Florida:

1. Watched every single episode of Arrested Development (Kat had never seen them).
2. Fishing charter where I caught the only fish, which we named Antwone and promptly ate later that night.
3. Saw Inglorious Basterds, which renewed my love of Tarentino which in turn renewed my vow to own a samurai sword in the near future.
4. Went to the shuttle launch, which got scrubbed... 3 times grrrrr
5. Beach beach beach burn beach.
6. Bought moccasins from a plantation in Georgia.
7. Drove through a hurricane, or if not a hurricane at least it's unruly cousin.
8. Got my 2.5 year old second cousins to say the funniest things.
9. Celebrated Kat's birthday at Outback Steakhouse, very classy to say the least.

So that was my vacation in a nut shell here is a pic of my monster of a second cousin. He's adorable, but he's a wild one. He's like a personal form of birth control, I don't think I can deal with kids haha. But I still love him to death.

What a cheeseball haha but he looks good reppin that State jersey! So we left Florida at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and made it back at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. I grabbed some lunch and headed back to school. Since then I have been organizing in the day and going out at night checking out everyones new places and participating in the shenanigans that go with Welcome Week. Tomorrow is the last day before classes start up and I am not ready at all but not too worried. If I was worried I probably wouldn't have been watching movies with Allyssa all the time haha. Or going to get some Cold Stone, which was ridiculously needed. Alright, well I'm going to attempt to get some sleep. I feel like I haven't slept in days.

I'm going to attempt to do a welcome to my house type thing in the next few weeks and also attempt to not be so lame about posting. Countdown to Britney: 7 days!

Oh and title song is Mayday Parade's new single. I've heard rumors it's off the New Moon soundtrack and I hope it's not because that will probably make me bitter towards it, but it sounds like it is, so I could see it.

Use Somebody (Cover)

From the number of Kings of Leon songs on here you'd think I am boarding on obsessed, however, this is another cover. Much like the cover by Charlotte Sometimes (which if you haven't listened to you should), this cover is probably preferable to me over the original. That's saying a lot because I do love the Kings. You should also check out her cover of Apologize by One Republic and anything else by her. Pixie Lott has been getting a lot of playtime on my iPod lately. Which speaking of iPods, my iPod is now refusing to sync because it doesn't have enough space. I was wondering when the day would come that my 60 gb would just not be enough and that day was yesterday. I don't think I can afford a new one now so I will just have to pick and chose :(

Other than that though my week has been just flying by. I've been attempting to pack and figure out how I'm going to move everything back to State before going to Florida in hopes of prolonging my Florida trip. Work is nearing the end, only 3 more days! Yay! Yesterday my friend Carey came over and helped me finish the scrapbooks (and again, when I say helped I mean did it for me). I'm so glad they are finally done. They are fun to look at and all but I can safely say I will never scrapbook again. Too much money and too much time.

I feel like there was most definitely something I wanted to post and I'm forgetting. Oh wait! I know what it was. When Lizzie and I went to see (500) Days of Summer. We saw a preview for the movie Adam and I want to see it so bad!!! Has anyone seen it? It looks so funny and cute. I need to find it, but yet again, living in Paw Paw is screwing me over. Ahhh, Hugh Dancy, I heart him. Let me know if you've seen it!

Alright, well I should starting thinking of a guest column for Mr. O's blog... any fun ideas or requests? I'm horribly uncreative so this is a struggle haha.

Especially in Michigan

This post is also known as "Thank you everybody for the awards!" Sadly there was no song with that title. So instead I'm stuck with this new jam by Red Hot Chili Peppers which is alright because it's about Michigan which is always good eh? Yeah, I thought so. Anyways, I have gotten so many awards lately, I am feeling the love, seriously dudes, LOVE. Thanks :)

I'm probably forgetting all the rules and whatnot and since I got like 3 at once (seriously, so much love) I am going to opt out of tagging people and taking the easy, yet acceptable in my book, road of saying if you read my blog, I read yours and therefore, take an award! Truly, you all have lovely, awesome blogs in my opinion.

Anyway, one rule I do remember is in regards to the J.U.G.S. (Just Us GuyS, no heads in the gutter) award from Lily over at Tapdancing in the Dark. She made up the rules of the game, and I'm gonna follow them so I am legally obliged to post 10 reasons I'm one of the guys so here goes.

1. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have more DVD's than is healthy and chick flicks are at a minimum. I'd say the number of chick flicks I have is an acceptable level for a dude. There will be more on this subject when I do the planned tour of my townhouse when I get all moved in and whatnot.

2. I can't match. Guys don't get angry I'm not saying you can't match I'm just saying most girls can. Sometimes I get questions like "Is that what you're wearing?" "Yeah, why?" "Nothing... never mind." I'm always questioning my judgement and sometimes just have Maria pick out my clothes (read: if pictures are going to be taken I politely tell Maria to pick me something).

3. On average I would say flowers don't really do it for me. I mean they are pretty and all but as far as gifts go I don't really see the point. I'd much rather you bring home a movie, that's much more useful to me. I mean every once in a while sure. But spend your money on something more useful, flowers die in like a week.

4. I take about 20 minutes to get ready in the morning, no joke. I get up, put on some eyeliner, throw on a t-shirt and jeans and go.

5. I cuss like a pirate with a fucking dirty ass mouth. See I can't even describe my swearing adequately without swearing. Alright, I don't swear that much... okay maybe I do. But I attempt to control it in situations where I feel like I should. Further evidence of my love for swearing, my favorite hoodie that on the back says "Bitch Be Cool" in big gold letters.

6. I know I'm not alone in this, but I'm definitely one of those girls who eats just about anything you put in front of me caloric intake be damned. "What's that, Milano cookies have 140 calories per 2 cookies you say? I'll take the whole bag... in one sitting... with some ice cream and fudge to dip them in."

7. I love to shoot guns, not particularly at animals, but give me a gun and somehow, someway a empty pop can is getting shot off a fence post. I once shot a soccer ball with a pump gun and the pellet ricocheted into the back window of my grandpas truck, bad news bears.

8. I might not be the strongest (Fact: I probably have the muscle strength of a 12 year old) but I will fight with the best of them. Because of my weak muscles my pain tolerance has sky rocketed since early childhood and I do have unreasonably sharp elbows that I am not afraid to use. Give me a call if you need some 'bows thrown.

9. Boxers are the best pajamas. In fact, as I'm writing this I'm in my pj's (Mario boxers that say Power Up and a t-shirt) Boxers are sometimes substituted with basketball shorts, but even then they are long and loose. I hate restricting clothes (aka anything a girl SHOULD wear).

10. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to build things. One day I hope to just be able to go buy some wood and make a masterpiece, but for now I settle on putting together any sort of drawers or desks that should happen to wander unassembled into our apartment. In fact, I have been eyeing a new tool kit, especially this one that is at Target that comes with everything a girl, errr a guy could want.

So there you have it. I could probably continue this list seeing as being from the country does nothing to enhance your feminine mystique but I'll stop before people start questioning my gender.

Other than receiving all these wonderful awards I've just been working, painting (a room), and attempting to gather the things for my bedroom next year. I bought some awesome lamps and while carrying them all I could think of was "I love lamp" it was severely hindering my social interactions until I tweeted it and got it out of my system. I also bought some new shelfs (which I obviously cannot wait to put together. A few more things and it seems I will be ready for school, the real question is whether or not I can get it all moved in before we leave for Florida (doubtful).

Again, thanks for the awards! And I tag all of you, it's like the give-a-penny, take-a-penny things, if you're missing one of the awards go ahead and take one... on me :) And for your troubles, a comic.

Where Were You?

I feel like it's been ages since I've written to all you beautiful people, I'm kind of sad about it. I feel like I've done quite a lot but now that I'm thinking about it my life seems drastically less exciting haha. In hopes of keeping this post relatively short I'll do the abridged version. So here goes.

You Might be Jeanette Benzie if:
1. You totally dominated on your golf outing this week (can you say win by 9)?
2. Had Friday off and fell asleep at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening to wake up at 10:00 a.m. Friday (that's 14.5 hours of sleep, sounds about right)!
3. Went to the new casino against my will on Friday and won $70 dollars... yeah I did.
4. Went to breakfast with your mother this morning.
5. Closely followed by a viewing of Julie & Julia with said mother.
6. Came home for a short intermission then headed back out.
7. Watched (500) Days of Summer.
8. LOVED (500) Days of Summer.
9. Quickly added (500) Days of Summer to your mental top 5 list of movies ever.
10. Now I'm looking at stuff for my room and watching Lost In Translation, it's just one of those nights I suppose.
11. Have a strong urge to buy another tool kit. Do I really need two?
12. This list is not so much a list of things I've done so I should probably stop now.
13. Before I do can I just say that I really, really, really, want some ravioli right now. It's ridiculous.

So, there you have it, my life in a nutshell. Before I forget I want to say thanks to all my guest bloggers, they all did a great job! Now onto my thoughts for the moment. Julie & Julia was great, Meryl Streep is such a great actress, she can do no wrong in my book. The movie wasn't as laugh out loud as I initially expected, but it was a very feel good movie. But anyway, not giving much away Amy Adams character blogs, and her blog got me thinking how my blog really doesn't have a purpose. I don't know, maybe it's one of my over thinking days, but I don't know if what I'm doing affects others. Not that that was my original intention, and I'm definitely not looking for pity comments, I'm just saying what I'm thinking.

Then (500) Days of Summer was so, so good. I wanted to turn back and buy another ticket and see it immediately after seeing it the first time. I can't even adequately express my thoughts or my happiness at finally having seen it. It took way too long.

So there you have it. That was my week and I'm $70 richer. Here is a comic for you all!

Oh and the title track is by a Michigan band called Every Avenue, they are really cool guys with some good jams. Check 'em out!

Guest Post #3: There's No "I" in Team

When Jeanette announced that she was doing a blog contest and the winners would get guest posts on her blog, I immediately started thinking of what I would write about. That may sound cocky, haha, but it was a music contest and we have a pretty similar taste in music. She has shown me some new bands and I hope that maybe I have or one day I will show her some as well. So when it turned out that I not only was a winner, but came in first place, I knew I had a few weeks to prepare because first place posted last. This was good and bad because it gave me time to think, but time to stress, especially after the first two posts were so great. But when I got the date I realized that it was on the day of my best friend’s birthday. So this is what I came up with. A post that combined my love for music and a shoutout to my bfff. This is the story of how I discovered what would become my favorite band and how my best friend was involved.

I had always heard of Taking Back Sunday, especially among my friends. There were kind of a “scene” band at that time I guess, as they weren’t on the radio or getting played out on MTV, but somehow all my friends were quoting their songs on aim and live journal and the such. I’m trying to think of what other bands my friends were playing at the time but for some reason all I can think of right now is The Early November. There were plenty of others, but right now their song “Ever So Sweet” is the only one I can think of. Anyways, Jme’s (that's how I spell it) birthday was coming up and I wanted to get her something. If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong, there was a cool cd holder at Wal Mart she wanted, so I got that for her. But I thought to myself to step it up and give her some cd’s to put in there. I knew she liked Taking Back Sunday so I bought her the cd “Where You Want to Be” and I believe I also got the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack, haha. (side note: that is a classic soundtrack).

I had this act I used to pull when I bought my friends cd’s: I would open it and rip it to my computer before giving it to them. I figured if I was paying for it, I at least wanted a copy for myself. So before I gave her the cd’s to put into her holder, I played “Where You Want to Be”
in my car -- for about two weeks straight. I feel in love with the opening to the cd with the repetitive “say yes say yes say yes” in the opening track “Set Phasers to Stun.” I listened on and in the second verse and when lead singer Adam Lazarra sang:

“Well theres a secret I've been perfecting, I swore I wouldn't but you let me I'm comfortably confused (and you...) You've gotten so removed You know I, I could take the place of those pills Ocean blue, paint it white Now who ya gonna call tonight?”

I knew I was hooked. I later saw the video for the cd’s third song, “A Decade Under The Inlfuence” and TBS was ultimately catapulted to my favorite bands category. I ended up being really late in discovering the songs “Cute Without The ‘E’ (cut from the team)” and “You’re So Last Summer” but after hearing them on a friends computer I recognized the lyrics as the ones that everybody had been posting. I went out and got the first cd “Tell All Your Friends” and a copy of “Where You Want to Be” for myself.

Over the years, my love for them began to grow as I could not only rock out to them, but I actually listened to them. In “New American Classic,” Lazarra sings:

we could live through these letters or forget it altogether,
see the months they dont matter its the days i can't take
when the hours move to minutes and i'm seconds away,

My freshman year of college, TBS came out with “Louder Now” and suffered the wrath that all bands usually face. The yells of “changing their sound” accompanied their debut on a major record label. Personally, it is one of my favorite cd’s ever. It been put into it to make it sound so. The cd produced probably their most popular song, as far as radio play to reach to the masses, to date with “MakeDamnSure.” That was in 2006. It wouldn’t be till June 2009 that a new cd by the band would come out. Until that time, I found myself going through a big breakup and latching on to their songs. Especially “One Eighty By Summer.” It’s not so much the actual lyrics, but the way he yells them at the end when he is saying

“She says live up to your first impression (Come on, just say it), Well my best side was your worst invention (Come on, just say it), Why can't you live without the attention (I need you defenseless, dependent), Why can't you live without the attention (alone).”

And that bring me to why I have always loved them. It’s the emotion they display in their songs. And I just realized a few months ago that in most of their songs, they don’t even rhyme.

Bringing this story full circle, when “New Again” came out in June, they announced a tour to support it. Seeing as how I had to give credit to Jme for helping me discover them in the first place, and because we needed something to do that summer, I asked her if she would want to go see them with me in Atlanta. She said of course and a couple months ago we, together, saw our favorite band. And while, thanks to the crowd, I wish some things would have went differently, it was definitely a memory to have the two of us watching a band that we have grown up with through high school and college.

So now, some thanks.

Thanks to Jeanette for giving for the love of pictures, Natalie, and myself the opportunity to do these posts.

Thanks to Jme for being born on this day 22 years ago and for showing me the music that would change my life.

Thanks to you -- for reading :)

Pour Some Sugar on Me

This is gonna be a long post, you've been warned.

First of all, Warped was awesome. The weather was kind of crappy, light rain and kind of cold, but I didn't mind too much. We got to see almost everyone we wanted to see plus we just stumbled across some people. I'm going from memory so I could be missing people, but this is who we saw.

1. 3OH!3 (Not the biggest fan, but we had nothing else to do)
2. A Skylit Drive
3. All Time Low
4. Bayside
5. Black Tide (a tad bit too metal for my taste)
6. Hit the Lights
7. Meg and Dia (One of my top 4 bands easily)
8. Saosin
9. Sing It Loud
10. The Maine (who did a Def Leopard cover, click on the title to hear it!)
11. There For Tomorrow
12. Valencia
13. You Me At Six

I feel like I'm most likely missing some, but I'm tired and can't think. If I remember any I'll add them. But anyways, all in all it was a good day. I met Meg, Dia, Nick, John and Carlo of Meg & Dia (obviously) we got some stuff signed by them and then headed off to Bayside and while we were watching them Carlo and Jonathan came to watch and ended up right next to me so I had a little convo with Carlo and then we went to go watch a few other shows. Throughout our wanderings we also met Pat Brown of Sing it Loud and John Franceschi of You Me At Six. So it turned out to be a pretty great day with some amazing shows. I bought a few shirts and got tons of free cds, who knows, maybe something will be good on them haha. Also, while shopping for the shirts I wanted I stumbled across this gem:

I don't think the shirt would be as hilarious if not for the label haha. But anyways, onto other business. Ana from Something Good In Everything I See tagged me to do 20 things about me and I thought it would be a good way to get my new followers a chance to know me better, if you don't care just skip over it, I won't be offended (mostly because I wouldn't know if you did or not). Here goes.

And not just any human being in the history of human beings, but a human being that gets to be alive today. That gets to listen to all kinds of music, that gets to eat food from every culture, that gets to download porn off the internet. So really, you have EVERYTHING to live for." -Charlie Bartlett

--------------------------------------------------------

Pheeww, I don't really want to tag anyone for fear of tagging someone who doesn't want to do it, but I would like everyone to do it so I can learn a little more about you guys!

Alright, I'm off for now, I'm hoping the new layout sticks, I just have to figure out how to scoot my title over to the left a little and then it's all good. Hope your weekend was as great as mine!
